Running the Runway {Epic 5K race recap}

Today I ran the Inaugural Ft Lauderdale Airport 5K on the Runway! It was such a unique experience! Kai and I had a lot of fun (minus some lingering leg pain for me; and new knee pain for Kai).
When we got to the venue I saw a few of my fellow Milers...

We had to walk for a bit to the gate leading on to the tarmac, where we were in a standing "holding pattern" until it was time to head to the start...

Kai is not a morning person so she was GRUMPY!

Once the gates opened we walked...

and walked....

and walked...

to the start...

The race started late but eventually we got going and were off to run the runway!
The Florida storm clouds decided to join us for the 5K (as you can see), but that didn't stop anyone from enjoying the route.

As seen on my Runway Run...

We look like "little ants" don't we?

The airport...

Heading towards the finish...

Sooooo...not quite a 5K but close enough I guess...
(It's a good thing I wasn't focused on my time for this race because then a "short route" would have been annoying)

And not the best medal...
(It's a good thing I wasn't doing it for the.... who am I kidding?! Of course I did it for the medal!!!)

I'm going to spend the rest of the day resting, icing, hydrating and fueling for tomorrow's Miami Beach Half Marathon :)

What's the most unique race you've ever participated in?

Anyone had a race or LR today? How was it?
