9 miles + 11 miles...

I was thinking about the significance of today as I was driving home to type this blog post. Kai and I had just finished watching Sully (you should see it if you haven't already) and I was once again in awe of the miracle that occurred when that flight landed safely on the Hudson River. Today as we remember one of the saddest days in the country's history, most of which centered around New York, I was able to watch a movie that celebrated something amazing (which also centered around New York). I by no means mention the movie in an attempt to take away from the significance of today. September 11th 2001 will never be forgotten. We will always remember where we were when we heard or saw tragedy unfolding right before our eyes. We will never forget how we felt in that moment. This day will always remind us to never take any day for granted. To always tell the people we love that we love them. To thank those that risked their lives on that day, and those who continue to do so every day.

This morning's "9 + 11" run went well...
I had two really long breaks mixed in. At mile 10 we stopped at a gas station (restroom break) but we didn't pause our watches...

After mile 11 one of my running buddies needed to slow down so we walked for a little over a mile until we got back to our cars...
Then our three-some turned into a two-some until mile 18. After the 18 mile point I ran the last two miles by myself.

Apart from our "breaks" our pace was pretty consistent and in line with what our long run pace has been this season. The humidity really slows us down. My next (and final) 20 mile training run will be in October so hopefully the weather will be a little cooler then. It's hard to be out there running for 5 hours (although I know that this "time on my feet" will help me when I'm on the marathon course for 5+ hours).

I'm so excited I was able to finish the run though! I was really nervous about it yesterday (and even this morning) but I know these training runs are important since my running dreams are pretty big (and just as scary)...

Post run selfie...

After I rested for a bit I decided to treat myself to something I love...

I took my coffee with me to the movies so that I wouldn't fall asleep in the movie theater (am I the only one who does that?)...

While we waited for the movie to start Kai and I took selfies...
(she just loves taking pictures with me)

And after that I went browser window shopping for NY marathon training gear...
(I looooove this black top!)

How was your long run this weekend?

What is the scariest running/racing dream (or goal) that you have?

Do you buy running tops for the major races you participate in?
