Weekend Getaway Day 3

The sun came out today! Just in time for the last day of our weekend getaway...

We did another quick one mile run...

And did our usual walk on the sand...

The sun coming out was a nice way to end the weekend. We didn't get much tanning or swimming time, but the barbecue yesterday was really fun and I got to spend time with family and friends and my favorite god-nephew...

But now it's time to head back to reality and home. It's going to be a long travel day starting with the road trip back...

(It was a beautiful day for a road trip... even though it was taking me back to my flight home)

How was your weekend?

What's your favorite beach day activity?

Do your prefer to fly or drive to a vacation destination?

Weekend Getaway Day 2

It rained all night so the roads were wet for our run this morning, but we got it done...

And then we went down to the beach to run on the sand for a bit...

It's still a pretty overcast day but there is something about standing on the beach and watching the waves that I find really beautiful and relaxing...

I tried to upload a video of the beach (which captures the beauty of the waves a whole lot better than the pictures do) but the internet connection at the beach villa is really slow. I guess that's their way of saying "stay off the electronic devices and go enjoy nature".

We took in the scenery for a bit after our run...

And then it was time to get ready to host friends at today's breakfast and barbecue. The weather will be a challenge because rain is on the forecast for most of the day the rest of the day. But we plan to make the most of it anyway. Plus it's always fun spending time with family and friends.

I decided to do my daily post earlier than normal because once the barbecue gets started I don't want to be on my computer or my phone. Plus it's hard to make memories if you don't stay in the moment 😉...

I hope you have a great Saturday!

Anybody racing this weekend?

What memory making activities do you have planned for today?

Weekend Getaway Day 1...

Let the vacation begin!!!! I was up well before the crack of dawn (around 2:30am) getting ready for my flight, and left just as the sun was rising...

By the time I saw home the morning was just getting started...

Most of the morning was spent visiting family so our road trip didn't really start until the early afternoon; and thanks to the highway I didn't get car sick...

It was rainy and overcast all of the way...

Once we arrived we decided to stop for food to get "some of the best jerk chicken"...

Vacation Eve & Streaking

In less than 24 hours I'll be watching the sunset on the beach...
I can't wait! I'm already in vacation-mode. I finished packing. I've made all the plans & arrangements. Now all I have left to do is sleep for a few hours before my flight. But before that I had to run...

Today marks Day #75 of my running streak! It's definitely the longest running streak I've ever done (almost twice as long as my last one) and I'm happy that I've been able to make it a part of my daily routine...

Home For The Holidays...

I've been on vacation mode since Christmas Eve when I came home for the holidays. And not my usual vacation mode where I work out every day (which is what I should be doing), but an actual "I've only exercised once in the 8 days I've been here" vacation mode...

Christmas Eve was spent traveling; hanging out with family; and doing Snap Chat shenanigans with my baby sister...

Then we went over to my cousin's house and hung out with him for a bit...

On Christmas morning my family and I went to Church; then we went back to our respective houses and finished our Christmas Dinner food preparations; then we had a wonderful Christmas Dinner together; and then we opened presents. My favorite gifts were a top that says "Faster in Jamaica"...

Exhausted Beyond Words...

Yesterday Kai decided to search for my gray hairs. While combing through my hair she found three (the very three that she gave me). I'm sure there are more but I stopped her at three because really, no one needs to know exactly how many gray hairs they have right?

The past few days have been busy with waking up early(-ish) to run, staying up late for the events, and trying to stay awake for the long commute back home. We have two more full days in Rio and a long day of travel coming up, but right now I am exhausted beyond words. Between that and my three gray hairs I realize I've reached my "no longer a spring chicken" phase in life.

On Tuesday I ran...

Then we went to see Christ the Redeemer...

Sanya (twin sis) and Me...

Kai being a teen...

Nine point Eight One seconds (& five seconds of fame)...

Last night at the stadium was incredible! The energy was positive and palpable. It was amazing to be present in that moment when Usain Bolt dominated the Men's 100m finals for yet another gold medal in that event...

To witness World Records being broken in the Men's 400m by Wayde van Niekerk from South Africa...

To just be there. It was truly amazing!

The Rio Report: A Once-In-A-Lifetime trip...

It's been a busy trip and my schedule has been completely off, but I'm finally getting a chance to do a quick blog post so let me begin with...
Greetings from Rio de Janeiro!!!
Half of my family is here for the 2016 Olympics and it has been quite a trip so far! It's hard to put all the emotions into words to be honest. This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime vacations so I'm trying to take in all the experience has to offer. What I can say is trips like these require a lot of flexibility and a lot of patience (we are all learning that lesson). Today is going to be another busy day but here is a brief recap of the trip so far:

Day one (-ish):
This was the start of a long day of travel, during which, Kai's phone was trauma alerted (thanks to TSA)...

Our flights took us from Ft Lauderdale to Campinas then on to Rio...

A Very Busy Week Ahead...

This week will be pretty busy with travel...

And of course all the stuff that I need to do before I travel will be keeping me pretty busy as well. Thankfully the most important things have been taken care of: I have proper attire :)
Do you think I have enough shirts?

It's Only Tuesday...

~ Adam Goucher
.
Christmas was great and my vacation (which is still ongoing) has been uneventful, but training has been hard. On Boxing Day (Dec 26th) I did a 3.5 mile run on the sand...

...followed by an hour of plyometrics. Running on the sand is not easy at all! I managed to maintain a pretty decent pace for the first two miles, but by mile three I was exhausted...
