When the glass tips over...

What filled the glass...
I'm still enjoying the benefits of my new "refillable glass" outlook. And this morning I started off the day with a very full glass because I had such a great run! It was one of those "forget all your worries" types of runs.
I did a 1/2 mile warm up walk...

And then went on to do a 5 mile non-stop run...

I felt really GREAT after!!!

I think it's probably because the heat wasn't too unbearable...

And the humidity was high but relatively tolerable...

I also did things a little differently this morning. I deviated from my traditional music playlists and decided to test out a podcast. In anticipation of my need for an amazing podcast to distract me during my 16 mile run on Saturday, I listened to the first episode of "Planted in Miami"...
This podcast is hosted by Jeanette and Alex, two amazing people who I've had the pleasure of meeting, running with, and learning yoga from [Jeanette]. Planted in Miami is a relatively new podcast they started to help create an awareness about Miami as a "forward thinking" city, and features local health and fitness superstars such as "athletes, activists, fitness instructors, business owners, farmers" etc

Jeanette and Alex are both vegans (I love them anyway) so some of the focus is on that, but not all of it. The first episode (the one I listened to this morning) featured Terri Cooper, a local yogi with an amazing story. The couple was also recently featured in the Miami New Times, so you can learn more about them and what they are doing by checking out that article later {by clicking HERE}.

What tipped the glass over...
I was full to the brim with happiness about my run until I got in my car to head to work and saw the "low tire pressure" alert. The cause? Not just one nail in my front tire, but two! I was really hoping I would be able to just patch the tire and continue on to work but no such luck. Two nails in one tire (and based on where they were located) = replacing the tire. And it just so happened (because this is how my luck typically runs) that the mechanic didn't have the tire I needed so they had to go and pick it up from another location before they could start working on my car. So that's how I spent my morning. June is turning out to be a really expensive month :(

What filled the glass back up...
My ticket is booked for the Reggae Half Marathon in December!!! For a while it looked as though I was going to have to cancel that trip and race because of a few recent budget changes. But my brother-in-law and twin sister are generously getting me there and my mom and dad are generously keeping me there. I have the best family in the world!!! In addition to that, both of my brothers-in-law are going to run the half marathon with me and I was finally able to convince my twin sister to do it!

Do your siblings/siblings-in-law run also? Do you guys do races together?

What podcasts do you listen to?

What "filled your glass" today?

  1. I love your outlook on refilling the glass! My sister is the one who inspired me to start running. I am planning on doing my first half later this year and she and her fiancé are both doing it (and maybe my husband).
It's fun to have everyone in the family participate!

Your 5 mile run sounds like it was amazing!!

    1. Thanks Jenny! My sister inspired me to start running too :) It's one of the best decisions I've ever made!
Are you going to do and shorter distances races as you build up to the half?

  2. What a great blog post. Refilling the glass is my new mantra! Thanks for the shoutout on the podcast. You're the best.

    1. I look forward to listening to more episodes soon :)

  3. My brother recently started running, and my husband and sister in law run as well. WE are signed up to do a Ragnar together in September. We have done it together for the last 3 years, and it is so fun. I like listening to podcasts while running too!
Glad you were able to remedy the tire situation safely, albeit time consuming and costly!

    1. Oh I can't wait to do a Ragnar race!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to do the Fl one in Feb next year but it sold out quickly. I'm still looking at ways to do one though. It's on my bucket list for sure!

  4. Yikes. Two nails on your tires? That's just frightening. Good thing that you were able to track it on time and was able to send it for repairs, instead of resulting in an accident when the puncture happened. That being said, I love your “refillable glass” outlook. I think it’s a good mantra to live by, so that we could stay positive about things. Thanks for sharing!

Edward Taylor @ Niguel Auto Center

    1. Thanks Edward! It's a new concept for me since I normally think "worst case scenario" but that's not the best perspective to have for training so the new one helps :)

  5. i like that 'refilling the glass' concept :)
My brother recently ran his first 1/2 marathon after 4months of training and having lost 60 pounds in the process. I flew and ran the race with him :)
I don't listen to anything when I run but I have friends who have sworn by podcasts

    1. That's awesome for your brother! and great that you were able to run it with him :)
My dad flew to Chicago to cheer me on while I did my first half. He ended up walking/running most of the course so he could get good pictures :)
