I'm back from Rio but I haven't run in over a week because I strained a muscle in my lower left leg and have been trying to be diligent about resting it. Not only am I dealing with the injury, I'm also sick. I was telling my mom all about how I was feeling last night...
(She decided to call instead of texting a response to all my whining messages)
True to my word I've been munching on Airborne in my attempts to feel better...
I'm still not 100% better and although I haven't been running, I have been trying to do a little strength training. So far this week I've gone to the gym twice for light non-impact cardio and weights. I'm trying to focus on strengthening my legs (and my core) so I spent a lot of time on the leg press...
Normally I keep my feet in the same position (pictured above) but I saw this on Facebook today and I'm going to try and vary my feet position to help target the areas that need more work...
It's not an ideal time to be taking a week off of running, especially as I get closer and closer to the NY marathon...
But I promised myself that I would listen to my body this training cycle. The last two training cycles I allowed stubbornness to drown out the subtle warning signs and I ended up injured and in physical therapy. I have a lot of respect for physical therapists I just don't have a desire to give them my money (I would rather spend it on race entry fees and other life-saving essentials).
My "rest and recover" period officially ends on Sunday which will leave me with 69 days of marathon training left. That's plenty of time right? (I'm trying to convince myself that it is). We also have some bad weather headed our way this weekend so I'm taking that as a sign that I should not be doing any road running.
When I started running three years ago I remember wondering if I would be able to run a 5K. My ultimate goal was always to run a marathon, but when I first started out I had doubts about my ability to finish every distance I set out to try. In the past three years I've run quite a few more miles and races than I ever thought possible...
And I have a wall of race bling to remind me to never give up on my goal...
No distance is impossible right? I mean, some are just crazy (like the 100K races) but not impossible.
What is the longest distance you've ever run?
What is the longest distance race you want to run?
How many races have you completed since you started running?
