Tropical 5K {Race Recap}

The weather was nice and cold for the Tropical 5K this morning! Of course, it feels amazing when you're running, but when you're waiting to start it's a lot less fun 😉. Andy, Jani and I met at 5am to head down to Miami for the race and once we got there we stayed in the car with the heat on for as long as we could. After we braved the elements while waiting in line to pay for parking, we made our way to the start shoot....

At the start we hung out for a bit and tried to keep warm while taking selfies...
And we ran into my friend Henri (who was there with his running crew)...

Once we started we warmed up pretty quickly. Initially Jani and I decided that we would try to run together as long as possible before she started intervals. My plan was to run a mile and walk (less than) a minute, and Jani's intervals were going to be 2:1s (or 60s:30s). But as we kept going the combination of the cool air, warm sun, and the race energy eliminated the need for the shorter intervals all together...

The race covers part of the beginning of the Miami Half & Full Marathon course and we got the pleasure of crossing one of the bridges right after the second mile of the 5K...

Once we got to the 3 mile mark we sprinted through the finish and ended up with finish times that we were both proud of...

Once we finished, as we made our way to the post-race party, we were witnesses to this beautiful display of love...

The post race party was small but very nicely set up...

And they even had a special seat just for me...

Jani and I walked around (and took pictures) for a bit until we met up with Andy...

Then we went to the beach for a few minutes before heading to the shuttles that would take us back to our car...

Overall I had a really great time at the event and I will definitely do this race again 😊...
