Those three little words...

I woke up this morning at 5am, dusted off my air climber (it's been a while since I've used it) and did a short cardio workout. I had a longer cardio workout in mind when I decided that Tuesday would be a "semi-rest" day, but I was feeling lazy this morning (to be completely honest) and I decided to spend the rest of my "cardio time" paying bills and looking at the budget for Christmas. I still haven't finished shopping. The whole Christmas shopping thing is just a disaster. Everyone (except me) is in full "holiday spirit" mode, even at work...

My holiday spirit was really low this morning because as I got in my car to head to work my car wouldn't start. My big brother came to my rescue to give me a jump start which ended up not working because the issue (apparently) wasn't the car battery but rather the starter. A faulty starter...really?! The car isn't even that old! So I lamented that "failing parts" (car and human) seems to be the theme of this week as I spent some quality time with the Kia Service department and this sexy hamster cut out...
I named her Gwen. I'm going to be able to pull off that outfit one day.

I spent the rest of the day catching up on all the stuff I want to clear off my desk before I go on vacation next week...and checking to see if my X-rays had been read yet. I only checked a few times ... every hour... every 30 minutes. Finally, almost at the end of the day (and my patience), I was able to hear the transcribed report and fell in love with three magical little words "No Acute Fractures". If you saw my reaction you would have thought I won the lottery the way I was jumping up and down (on the feet that are still hurting but at least are not broken). The report also said "no bone abnormalities or soft tissue swelling". Awesome!

This great news means I can run tomorrow and my focus will be on increasing my interval duration. I'm scheduled to do a timed run for 60 minutes but that's going to depend on how I feel. I may break it up into two 30 minute sessions and take a 10 minute walk break in between...

In marathon training the ability to get started is probably the hardest part. Once you are up and running your mind and body are already engaged in the process and it's easier (relatively speaking) to just keep going. You might have to remind yourself to be patient (and possibly paste these MilePost quotes all over your house like wall paper)...but starting? starting is the hardest part...

How long did you train before you ran your first full or first half marathon?

Is anyone else missing the holiday spirit this year (or is it just me)?

  1. I am so happy you got a clear report! I would have jumped for joy too. :) You are so right about the hardest part being the 'starting.' I completely agree 100%.
