Catch Me If You Can!

Today didn't start out as an "easy day" since I started my morning with a 5K run. My goal is to get back to the point where I'm running this distance non-stop. And then to be able to do that consistently at least once a week. Then to be able to increase to 4 miles, then 5 miles, then a 10K non-stop by the end of the year. That's not too complicated right?

For the run this morning I really really really wanted to run non-stop but I'm not there yet. I'm trying to find my balance as I transition to a new foot strike and what I'm realizing is that means "taking my time" and "completing realistic intervals" so that I can maintain the form I want. Sometimes the focus on form necessitates less focus on speed. And we all know "less speed" is something I do quite well ;)

So I pushed myself a bit but didn't go overboard this morning. My run breakdown looked like this...
Run 0.5 mile: walk 30s: Run 0.5 mile: walk 1 min: Run 1 mile: walk 45s: Run 1.1 miles

I tried to get a picture that captured the beautiful shade of blue in the morning sky :)

I found out recently that April is Stress Awareness Month (did you know that?). I love when the months have a theme that I can relate to! Anyway, in the spirit of finding ways to acknowledge stress and then do something to "de-stress" I decided to do some more yoga this evening when I got home from work. Today has been an exceedingly stressful day for me and yoga was one way to try and "step back from the emotional cliff".

I also looked at different things other people do to manage their stress and found out that some insurance companies are now reimbursing their clients for classes like yoga and for gym memberships etc. SIGN ME UP FOR THAT PLEASE!!!! Unfortunately my health insurance is not that fancy (or forward thinking), but I love the concept that OSCAR utilizes. Hopefully more companies move in that direction soon. If I can get my gym membership paid for then it means I can buy more running clothes like this amazing running tank that has made it to the #1 spot on my birthday wish list!!!!!...
I think this top is sooooo cool!

In keeping with my focus on running clothes today I saw this awesome post on the StrongGirlFitness Instagram page today...
I thought this was so funny! I still wear jeans all the time but that doesn't make this any less funny :)

My birthday is next month and May also happens to have a theme that I can totally relate to. May is National Trauma Awareness Month and as a trauma nurse that's a really big deal for me. It's part of the reason why I'm running for those who can't in the Wings for Life World Run again this year (100% of the proceeds goes towards spinal cord injury research). Today I got my bib number in my email...
...and now I'm just waiting to hear about packet pick up (which is probably going to be next week Saturday if they do things the same way they did last year).

How do you "de-stress" after a busy/hectic day?

What's your favorite running article of clothing to wear?

Have you ever run for a cause? Which one?
