Core...weights...and motivation

Today I focused on core and weights. I got up later than usual for a gym day but before I left the house I did my plank challenge and wall sit...

At the gym I did more core stuff on the Captains chair and then I worked out on a variety of different weight machines. I tired to do weights to target both my upper and lower body for more of a full body workout (but only light weights so hopefully I won't be very sore tomorrow)

Part of the motivation for my core workouts (in addition to the benefit to my running form) is to have a nicely defined abdominal region. I don't need to look like a body builder but a little definition doesn't hurt right? Well today (after my gym routine) I was the proud owner of a two-pack! Yup! My two upper rectus abdominus muscles were peeking through. I don't have any photo proof (they're barely visible to the naked eye so I'm pretty sure my phone camera wouldn't pick them up) so you just have to take my word for it.

Some things that made me happy today included my new snack food...
and new salad topper.....

So I have a funny story to share. Well...it's funny now that I survived the incident unscathed. I am the course director for two national trauma nursing courses at work (that's part of what I do) and today there was a nurse who had to complete his trauma skills and written exams. He had just completed the skills exam (and had started the written) so I decided to make good use of the time by putting away all of the testing equipment. In the middle of moving the life sized simulation mannequin a LIZARD jumped out of one of the bags!!!!! I. ALMOST. DIED. I haaaaaaaaaate lizards (in case that wasn't obvious.....it's why I'm not a trail runner by the way). I screamed so loud! The poor nurse had to rescue me by catching the lizard and getting rid of it. I really thought I was going to pass out. I felt like things were crawling on me for hours afterwards. I was jumpy and fidgety (people probably thought I was on hallucinogenic medications). It was really really horrible. Thankfully I survived but it was a really close call there for the few seconds that I was frozen in sheer terror. I got someone else to pack up the rest of the equipment (just in case the lizard had a friend lying in wait for me)...
The rest of my day was pretty uneventful. Thankfully. I like excitement but mainly the type that doesn't involve a close cardiac arrest.

Someone please tell me when the Summer heat will be over?! Today was simply HOT...

A nice reminder/motivation from Runner's World to wrap up your Thursday...

How many years have you been running?
