A1A Races Pics & Other Race News...

Race photos are in!!!! First let me say that my current running related financial situation necessitates a focused allocation of financial resources towards race entry fees and travel. As a result I'm not currently motivated (financially or otherwise) to purchase race photos. And I certainly won't purchase them for a race that sucked. BUT I will share them and willingly give all the photo credit to the official photographers and their employer (thank you MarathonFoto!). I happen to like the pictures from the A1A half on Sunday because I look like I'm having a great time (even though inside I felt like I was dying)...
(not the best running form (arms should not cross over body) but still a nice pic 😎)

I think I must have been in a hypoglycemia induced state of delusion during which my facial expressions were not accurately reflecting the agony I was actually feeling...

And you can tell that's what's probably happening because I seem to be waving to photographers that may not actually be there, while completely ignoring the ones who are taking my race pictures...

The only smiles that actually reflected how I was feeling where in the pictures of me crossing the finish line...

And even more so, after I was done and had my medal in hand...

Or once I placed it safely around my neck so it wouldn't slip out of my fatigue riddled fingers...

The biggest race related news from Sunday's half was the woman who was caught cheating by cutting the course. Marathon Investigation (MI) released the story today and it has created a bit of a social media uproar...
You can click on the link to read the full article (and extensive investigation) if you want all the details about what happened, but in summary: The initial 2nd place finisher cut the course by approximately 1.5 miles (she turned around early) and took the 2nd place award. She later confessed to cheating when faced with the evidence showing that she had not run the entire course. She went on social media and apologized, got stripped of the award, and terminated from her running groups/affiliations.

Some of the comments on the MI post chastised the author for sharing the runner's social media account information and other data, but to be honest I'm not sure I agree with them. Any public social media account data is... public. If you don't want the world to know what you do then don't post it on social media (and certainly don't make your account public). But also... and most importantly... don't cheat at a race. Period.

I'm not going to harp on what she did. It was stupid and selfish and I'm sure she feels horrible (if for no other reason than the fact that so many people know now) but there is one thing that the MI post stated that I think is worth sharing...
Having been there, at the event, suffering through the 7th circle of hell the hot and humid race course, I totally understand wanting it to be over as quickly as possible. And considering that my pace is almost twice as slow as hers I definitely suffered a lot longer than she did. BUT cutting the course, and claiming a second place win was not ok. Also... most races have a timing mat AFTER the turn-around point, in addition to all the other technology out there, why would anyone think they can get away with cutting the course early?

Anyway, hopefully she will never do anything like that again, and I'm glad the race organizers acted quickly in addressing the situation. It almost makes me consider signing up again for next year... almost 😉.

In other (non-race) news... If you've been reading my posts and/or following my Instagram you should have picked up on my love for The Awkward Yeti, so you can imagine how excited I was to get this...
(😊😍😊)

The calendar has comics that I haven't seen on their Instagram account yet so I was really excited about that! And it's now hanging in my room and helping me plan for my upcoming trips...

How often do you buy your race pictures?

What are your thoughts on race cheaters (in general and/or this specific case)?

Share one "utter nonsense" thing you did for your heart today?

    1. Yea it really sucks. Her actions were very selfish. I would have been really upset if it were me that didn't get to participate in the ceremony because someone cheated and lied.
