Traveling the distance between dreams and reality....

Today was a cross training day and thankfully I was able to make it to the gym. I did mostly core work and weights today, then ended with a very short session on the elliptical. Now that I am slowly incorporating more strength training on my cross training days I'm testing out different combinations to see which machines I should focus on. Today I did the Captain's chair, Leg press, Leg extension, and Ab weight machines. I did 5 sets of 10-12 reps on each machine, except for the Leg press where I did continuous reps for approximately 3 minutes.

I think I might have overdone it on the Leg press. My left knee feels "tight". I've iced it today and applied my usual double dose of ICYHOT. Hopefully it will be "ok" by tomorrow (I'm scheduled for another mid-week run in the morning).

I haven't been able to muster up the enthusiasm for swimming yet (which, by the way, is what I was supposed to be doing at the gym this morning). I know I need to start swimming again because it really is one of the best ways to cross train as a runner and a great way to improve endurance. But somehow none of those reasons have propelled me in the direction of the pool at the gym. Maybe next week...

Recently I have been contemplating joining a running group. A lot of groups are starting now, or have just recently started, in preparation for the upcoming Fall and Spring marathon seasons. I recognize that every group is different and each will have their pros and cons. And every runner is different so I may love it or hate it or still be on the fence even after I join. However, I want to make an educated decision and I'm a big believer in learning from the experiences of others and doing my research on the topic.
I read THIS article that presents 2 opposing opinions regarding running with a group. But even after reading it I'm still on the fence so please post or email me your thoughts or the experiences you have had with joining a running group (good or bad).

I also came across this list of Murphy's Law(s) for runners...
How many of these "laws" have you encountered?

Share your running group stories or tips :)
