Let It Be Enough...

Today my "enough" was my one mile run. It happened in the middle of the day... in near perfect weather... on a route that was familiar... while I listened to a podcast that was new. Maybe it was the unique combination of all those factors that made this run so great. It was only a mile... one mile. But because of that one mile I accomplished something that I wished for only two days ago... to beat a time that I hadn't seen in almost two years...

When I set out for the run I didn't have a PR goal in mind. I was home early from work because the repair people were finally coming to check out my fridge (it's fixed now by-the-way😁), and I decided to get my run out of the way while I was waiting. It was a really sunny day but the temperature was pretty nice...

About 1/4 of a mile into the run I decided to see how fast I could complete the mile. And so I pushed my pace and slowly increased my cadence until I was able to get to this...

I was so excited that I got the PR! As I was getting close to the one mile mark I contemplated trying to run farther to see how long I could keep up that pace, but I didn't want to jinx it so I stopped exactly at 1 mile. It was enough for today...

In the immediate moments after the run I was too busy trying to breathe to take any pictures, so that picture was actually taken during my "cool down" walk 😉. And after my cool down walk I decided to go and lounge by the pool (since I was still waiting for the repair people)...
(It's hard to take a selfie when the sun is shining in your eyes 😎)

I honestly surprised myself today. I've been working on decreasing my 1 mile and 5K times since the beginning of the year (I know I've mentioned it on the blog before). In general, I'm hoping to improve my pace across all the distances, but I know that some of the first steps will be to improve the shorter distance times before I tackle the longer distance times. It would be absolutely amazing if I could get all PRs this year (most of them were achieved in 2015)...

I still have work to do to get PRs in all the other distances. Consistency will be the key component in my training. That and cross training... and better sleep... and proper nutrition... Like I said I have A LOT of work to do to get those PRs. But today, I'm just going to remain on PR cloud 9 and enjoy my new one mile time, cause today I was reminded that I was born to run...

How was your Wednesday?

Do you have specific PR goal in mind for this year?

What app/method do you use to keep track of your PRs?
